WHY I AM RUNNING

I ask that Howard County Democrats vote for me to serve on the Howard County Democratic Central Committee because I have the skills, knowledge, and energy to help step up the Democrats’ game and play to win on every front: local, state, and national. We can best do this by cultivating the next generation of community leaders who stand for equity and inclusion.

In particular, I seek your support because we need to field strong candidates who are committed to protecting the health and safety of our communities. It’s time to elevate reality-based and forward-looking leaders who are truly committed to smart and sustainable development. Unlike those who give polluters a free pass, we need to elect those who understand that we can grow the economy, create jobs, and protect the environment at the same time.

I seek your support because we need to defeat corrupt, regressive, and dogma-driven Republican hypocrites who consistently hurt ordinary Americans by siding with predators, polluters, and gun extremists. Our Committee must recruit, support, and put forward energetic Democrats who will win and who will fiercely defend our democracy and social justice, promote equity and inclusion, find compassionate and common-sense solutions to complex problems, enhance the quality of life for our community, and conserve our precious natural heritage for our children and grandchildren.

I seek your support because we Americans know in our hearts that the United States is far better than the mean-spirited, divisive, and destructive leadership we have seen lately. We know that we are a stronger nation when we live up to the motto of our Founders, “E pluribus unum” (“out of many, one”). We also know that ours is a “more perfect union” when we deepen and expand our understanding of what our Founders meant when they declared boldly in 1776 the “self-evident” truth “that all men are created equal.” Let’s make Howard County a shining example that shows how a community thrives best by living up to these very American ideals.

Finally, I ask for your vote because, as a former career diplomat and environmental planner, I know how people of goodwill can work together to heal our nation and the planet. As President Lincoln told a polarized nation in 1862: “We can succeed only by concert. It is not ‘can any of us imagine better?’ but, ‘can we all do better?’ The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise — with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.”

Let's do just that. Thanks for your support and your vote.
